A Journey Along the River, Experiencing the Flow of Life
September 29, 2026
As part of World Rivers Day, the Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) of Koottilangadi Grama Panchayat organised a public-participation programme for observing and documenting the biodiversity of Kadalundipuzha.
The programme was flagged off at 7:00 AM from Kanjamanna riverbank. The journey provided an opportunity to closely observe the rich biodiversity of the river and its surroundings, including aquatic life and the diverse plant and animal species along the riverbanks.
Led by Mr. Azeez, BMC Convenor and former Headmaster of Koottilangadi G.U.P. School, the group travelled approximately seven kilometres, passing through several riverbanks and scenic locations. The journey concluded at the confluence of Kadalundipuzha and Cherupuzha, where the closing session was inaugurated by Smt. Rasna, President of Koottilangadi Grama Panchayat, at 5:30 PM.
The programme highlighted that rivers are not merely sources of water, but vital ecosystems that support biodiversity and sustain life. The initiative conveyed an important message on the need to protect rivers, conserve biodiversity and strengthen collective responsibility towards the environment.
The active participation of elected representatives, BMC members, environmental enthusiasts and the public contributed to making the programme a meaningful and memorable environmental initiative.
